Francisca Onumah
Ghanaian-born Silversmith
“ I’M DRAWN TO FINDING CHARACTER AND HUMAN-LIKE SEMBLANCE IN INANIMATE OBJECTS. I BRING THESE OBSERVATIONS INTO MY WORK, BY CREATING AMBIGUOUS SCULPTURAL OBJECTS THAT DISPLAY AN ANTHROPOMORPHIC DISPOSITION.”
Ghanaian-born Silversmith Francisca Onumah works from sheet metal obsessively layering different mark-making techniques. Marks are hammered repeatedly, folding and impressing patterns onto the surface of the metal.
Her sculptural objects and contemporary jewellery have become a part of both public and private collections.
